Looks like I’m an Instagram refugee. Cheers to social media that doesn’t make money off making little girls feel bad — or fomenting conflict, with global political ramifications! Yikes.

Anyway, this will primarily be a makeup blog, with some crafting and music content thrown in for fun. I started my Instagram account because I saw so few over-40 faces in the beauty space that weren’t using filters— and I put my plus-sized, then-42-year-old face out there. I quickly started posting about mindful consumerism, with monthly “Project Pan” updates (this is when you actively try to finish makeup or beauty products — the term “pan” referring to the metal pan at the bottom of most powder cosmetics), and following a number of indie makeup brands. There are so many lovely people there doing incredible things with eyeshadow and trying to use what they have, sometimes in a bit of penance for past profligate spending. I will really miss that community, and hope some of those folks will check in on me here.

In truth, though, however many #motd posts I’ve made, I’m a much better writer than photographer. (We will not discuss my video skills…) I did often feel limited by the cursed text box, even when I was just posting about my latest Ulta trip. Plus, in the only instance in my life in which I was an early-adopter, I started a blog in October 2001 (the year some of my IG friends were born) and kept it up for most of the next sixteen years. Long-form feels like home! I also do look forward to using complete sentences again. I suspect excessive emoji use is frowned upon here!

So bear with me while I work out the kinks, figure out formatting, etc. I hope to be active several days a week.
