Good news/bad news

Good news: I hit pan on my Tarte mini blush in Paaarty yesterday! For the record, it took 36 uses to hit pan in this 1g blush. I think I can finish it by spring!

Bad news: there’s a reason I’m wearing glasses. I never wear glasses.

The shimmers in the Juvia’s Place The Berries Palette do not play well with my eyes. It’s the glitter, which is not a problem with my other Juvia’s Place palette (Nubian 3 Coral). In this photo, I’ve removed the eyeshadow (and my contacts) and reapplied the CoverGirl Exhibitionist Uncensored Waterproof Mascara to see if it was also to blame. Ten minutes after this photo was taken, I was back in the bathroom, removing the mascara.

Full disclosure, I have sensitive eyes affected by seasonal allergies, and this summer started using prescription eye drops for chronic dry eye. I also wear contacts, at least 16 hours a day. I switched to waterproof mascara when I started the eye drops, but I’m starting to think that wasn’t a solution. Let’s make a list of all the mascaras I’ve used this year (I usually go through about 5–6 annually):

  1. Essence Lash Princess False Lash Effect Mascara: my perennial favorite, but not waterproof.
  2. it Cosmetics Lash Blowout Mascara (mini): so minimal, why bother?
  3. Milani Highly Rated Mascara: another favorite, also not waterproof.
  4. Tarte SEA Surfer Curl Mascara: really nice, but pretty expensive (and not waterproof, despite the name!).
  5. Essence Lash Princess Waterproof False Lash Effect Mascara (twice in a row): about the same as the original, but difficult to remove.
  6. Ilia Limitless Lash Mascara (mini): not great, constantly ran into my eyes.
  7. Joah Lash Uprising Waterproof Mascara in Blackest Black: flakes, very hard to remove.
  8. CoverGirl Exhibitionist Waterproof Mascara in Very Black: smudges, hard to remove, always ends up on my contacts.
  9. CoverGirl Exhibitionist Uncensored Waterproof Mascara: makes my eyes burn.

So this whole saga is basically telling me to go back to the Lash Princess, which I only ever stopped using because I thought it was too hard on my lashes — but the others I’ve tried haven’t been great, either, and they look bad and hurt my eyes. This should not be so complicated.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
